Tuesday's weather will be quiet but it's the proverbial calm before the storm as a potent winter storm is brewing out west that will bring snow, sleet, and ice to much of Kansas Wednesday and Thursday. Winter storm watches have already been issued for most of Kansas tomorrow though Thursday.

Tuesday look for sunny to partly cloudy skies with highs in the mid & upper 40s over the central and east and around 50 for southwest Kansas. Lighter winds are expected early in the day but will increase during the afternoon, especially for western Kansas.

A wintry mix of snow, sleet, and rain is on the way to Kansas Wednesday afternoon. Road and weather conditions will quickly deteriorate Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Southern Kansas will see a better chance for rain, sleet, andbsome freezing rain while sleet and snow are on the way to central and northern Kansas. Ice accumulation will be possible, especially on elevated surfaces.

Right now it appears the heaviest snow will fall over parts of central and northern Kansas where 6-9 inches possible. Locations such as Hays, Russell, Great Bend, Hill City, Concordia, Beloit, and Smith Center will most likely see the heftiest totals.

Behind the midweek weather-maker Friday, much colder temps will blow into our area as afternoon highs tumble into the 30s.

Be sure to check back with Storm Team 12 for further updates as the storm system continues to get its act together out west.
