Under mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies today, some melting will occur, however because of the deep snowpack, temperatures will only reach the upper 20s and lower 30s. Winds should remain fairly light through the day.
Clouds will begin to increase Saturday night and especially Sunday as the next winter storm heads toward Kansas. Snow will develop in western Kansas during the day. Eastern Kansas should remain dry most of Sunday, however by Sunday evening a mixture of rain and snow will develop across south central Kansas while precipitation remains all snow to the north. Sunday night we'll see precipitation change over to snow and there will be modest accumulation of snow over the state Monday into Monday afternoon.
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect Sunday evening through Monday night for a large portion of Kansas. Preliminary snowfall estimates place 6-12" of snow across the state through Monday night. This storm appear to have more wind compared to the last one, so blowing and drifting of snow is more likely.
Please note there is still some uncertainty, regarding the track and intensity of this system. Watch for more updates as the weekend progresses, so please stay tuned.
