Derby High School's winter formal is back on. The Holly Ball was cancelled last month after Derby student damaged the bleacher at a football game against Hutchinson.
Principal Tim Hamblin says students were cursing too much at games, arriving late to class and leaving trash around the school. He said if conditions improved, he'd reconsider his decision to cancel the dance.
On Monday, Hamblin did just that. "I knew that they had that potential, and I would like our school to be one that other schools look up to, but the way we were behaving at the time, that wasn't going to be the situation. So I presented a challenge, they rallied as a student body, like I said, today I was able to give them good news."
Students at Derby High School also raised $600 to repair Hutchinson's bleachers.
