Valentine's Day gives you a good excuse to go out on a date. If you've been out of the game for a while, or just need some pointers to make that date turn into a relationship, this one's for you.
We sat down with Suzanna Mathews, "The Date Maven," for her list of dating do's and don'ts.
1) Don't cancel dates at the last minute.
Give at least 8-hours notice if you can. If you give an hour, or half and hour it looks like you're flaking out, even if you're legitimately sick.
2) Don't watch the clock.
If you constantly check the time your date won't feel respected. Let's face it, respect is a huge turn on.
3) To kiss or not to kiss?
Follow your gut. If it feels right, it's okay to kiss on the first date. But don't force it. A handshake says, "Don't call me." Where a hug says, "I'll see you later."
4) When do you say, "Yes"?
This one is a little tricky. Women, you've probably heard that you need to wait a day or two so you don't seem too eager. Some men find a full schedule attractive. If he asks you out on a date a couple days in advance, that's good. If he asks you out an hour in advance, it makes you seem too available.
5) Don't be critical.
There's a new trend to correct your new flame after the date. Don't. It's a huge no-no. You should only tells your date what they're doing wrong when you're in a committed relationship.
6) Picky picky.
If you have dietary preferences, such as allergies, or a special diet, try to find the restaurant's menu ahead of time and see what you can order without making a lot of changes. You don't want your first impression to look too picky, or high maintenance.
