(WICHITA, Kan)—
House Republicans look to cut income taxes for all Kansans, but they want to do it differently than Governor Sam Brownback. The plan was layout of on Friday and would reduce rates in all three tax brackets, the big difference would be in the lowest bracket. Brownback's plan would eliminate the earned income tax credit for the poorest households, while the House plan would only reduce the amount they pay from 18% to 9%.
House Tax Chairman Richard Carlson of Saint Mary's says the plan would cost the state almost half as much as the Governor's plan.
The House plan would cost the state $41.7-million dollars versus $89.9 million for Brownback's plan
The bill will be introduced Monday.
