For the first time in years, K-State comes to Lawrence for the bi-annual Sunflower Showdown as the higher ranked team.
Following a three-game slide that saw the Jayhawks drop games to Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and inexplicably TCU as arguably the underdog in Allen Fieldhouse against the Wildcats.
Thanks to Rodney mcGruder's hot shooting and 22 points in a win over Iowa State, the Wildcats are in sole possession of first place in the Big 12. K-State has won four straight games coming into Monday night and are seeking redemption against Kansas, the beat them last time in Manhattan.
More importantly, this is a chance for K-State get a win in Lawrence when the moment may not be better. The Jayhawks are reeling right now after three straight losses, a feat not accomplished since February 21st, 2005.
The last time K-State went to Lawrence, they left struggling to smile, losing 67-49. Kansas has won five in a row in the series.
This will be the 17th time both teams have been ranked in the Sunflower Showdown, including an astounding six out of the last nine times.
Jenn Bates will be in Lawrence for the game - check for her on KWCH 12 Eyewitness Monday from the Sunflower Showdown.
