Al Allala moved to a small town to get away from drugs and crime. But just a few houses away in the tiny town of Burrton, Harvey County deputies confiscated 30 marijuana plants along with grow lights and other equipment.
"We heard it on the radio and my mouth fell open!" Allala says.
The sheriff's offce got a tip that pot was being grown in the house in the 100 block of West Market Street. Officers say when they arrived there, knocked on the door and the door opened, they could immediately smell the marijuana plants.
Sheriff T. Walton says the 56-year-old man who lives in the house didn't put up a fight. Investigators say he had converted a bedroom into an indoor pot farm--a good-sized operation for one man.
Allala says the man had lived in the house for at least a year and had few visitors aside from a woman.
The suspect was taken to jail to await formal charges.
