Are you flying out of Wichita's Mid-Continent Airport? You may want to give yourself some extra time.
The airport is encouraging early-morning travelers to arrive at the airport at least two hours before their departure time and arrive at the security checkpoint at least 90 minutes before flight time.
"It's great to see the airport this busy, just not when you're trying to get on your plane," explained Tim Sweigart, who was trying to catch a flight Friday morning.
The airport estimates around 1,100 people fly out of the airport between six and seven in the morning, creating long lines and long waits at security.
"If you were in Chicago you would move faster than this," said Katie, who says she travels frequently.
Airport officials are asking people to be patient. Help is on the way in the form of a new terminal, scheduled to be done in 2014.
"Certainly a heavy factor in the design of our new terminal was not only the demand, and the capacity to serve that demand, but the peak periods," explains Brad Christopher, Assistant Director of Airports.
Christopher says the new terminal will double the space for security screening, making things move quicker.
"Help is coming and we're getting ready to break ground on that, we just have to wait for it to get here."
Also, to speed up the check-in process, passengers are encouraged to check-in online and print out their boarding pass before heading to the airport. If you have a boarding pass and are not checking a bag at the airline ticket counter, you can proceed directly to the TSA security checkpoint.
