Today is International Pancake Day and folks in Liberal are celebrating their annual pancake day race against their friends in Olney, England.
The race is simple...see who can run the fastest while flipping pancakes.
This year's winner is Devon Byrne of Olney who set a new record with a time of just 56 seconds. That beats Liberal's best time of 64.3 seconds. Her mother was a three-time Olney race winner in 1988, 1989, and in 1993.
Tasha Gallegos previously held the record of 57.5 seconds set in 2009.
Here's a list of the top three winners in Liberal:
1. Caitlyn Demarest 64.3 seconds
2. Rene Boaldin
3. Kaela Kreuger
The friendly competition has been going on since 1950. The overall race record now stands at 36 wins for Liberal and 27 wins for Olney.
The annual races also prompted a lesson for pre-K and kindergartners at Wichita Collegaite Tuesday. The school used the event to teach the students about the races and then they had their own pancake race in the school gym.
