The Kansas Department of Revenue tells Eyewitness News, operations are back to normal across the state.
"We realize this outage has been a great source of inconvenience and frustration for many people,” said Director of Vehicles Donna Shelite. “The vendor responsible for the 8-year-old server is continuing work to ensure we do not have an unplanned outage like this again.”
Employees spent the first three days of the week repairing a hard drive. The computer in question allows driver's licenses and ID cards to be issued.
Some people at the DMV office on 21st and Amidon in Wichita on Wednesday said they were waiting since Tuesday to renew their license.
"They have not given me an answer," said James Portley who was waiting. "They said they don't know, so I'm just waiting patiently."
A DMV spokesperson says technicians already have plans to replace the entire system soon as the current one is eight years old.
"Resuming issuing driver’s licenses and identification cards is our top priority. This is a great inconvenience for many Kansans and we and our vendor are focused on ensuring there are not problems in the future," said Director of Vehicles Donna Shelite.
Eyewitness News is dedicated to getting the facts right, so we need to correct an error from our noon newscast. We reported the Andover DMV was open with limited services. That was not accurate, all DMV's across Kansas are unable to process anything because of a statewide computer issue.
