A small Kansas town with a "can do" attitude bounces back after a devastation tornado six months ago.
Back in May, the town of Reading experienced a massive tornado.
The bank reopened this week as a branch of the Citizens State Bank and Trust in Woodbine. Meanwhile, across the corner workers are busy finishing up work on an all-new Miracle Cafe. The old one was completely wiped out by the storm. After taking out a small business loan the owner plans to reopen on Monday.
"I got into this because I love this community, so it never entered my mind not to rebuild or do whatever we needed to keep the Miracle Cafe open," owner Rita Jackson says.
There's still a lot more rebuilding to do. Only 14 of the 53 homes destroyed by the tornado have been rebuilt. However, city officials say most of the families intend to rebuild and move back as evidenced by the fact that the number of students at the school went up in the fall. Still, Reading's population has dropped from 120 to about 60 as the rebuilding effort continues.
