Wichita man charged with bank robbery

A 52-year-old Wichita man is charged with bank robbery.  A criminal complaint filed in US District Court in Wichita alleges that Billy L. Wilson robbed the Commerce Bank in downtown Wichita on Friday.

According to the complaint, Wilson entered the bank at around 10:20 in the morning and handed the teller a demand note saying, "This is a robbery.  I have a gun.  Give me the money," or words to that effect.

after bank surveillance photos of the robbery were made public, police received a tip that the robber was known from participating in a drug recovevry program.  Officers tracked the robber to a hom eon S. Hydraulic, but he was not home.  They called his phone, and he turned himself in later that day at the Sedgwick County Jail.

If convicted, he faces a maximum of 20 years in federal prison and a fine up of to $250,000.
