The Wichita School District auctions off an old elementary school. The building was up for auction because students who attended Mueller Elementary School were moved to a new building at the start of the school year.
The highest bid was $56,000. Mark Cox from Vintage Construction was the highest bidder. He says he's considering using the building for some sort of multi-family house project. "I toured the property and it was in good condition. A lot of space, a lot of amenities, the quality of the space areas for an office, recreation," Cox said.
The bid must still be approved by the Wichita School Board to become official. "Yeah, it's a remarkable price, I'm pleased with the price. We'll see what the board has to say about it," Cox said.
Neighbors tell us they're looking forward to having a new neighbor. The district has kept up the school, but that hasn't kept unwanted visitors from using it. Neighbors report an increase in litter, broken glass and beer cans on the property.
