A charity that helps feed and house the homeless in Wichita may lose its building next month to auction.
Pastor Mike Furches and his wife run the charity called Mosaic Wichita. It is housed inside a building on 216 S. Market. Furches found out Tuesday the building will be auctioned off January 11th.
"They help prepare lunch, they help clean, they really help operate the facility we have no paid staff including myself," Furches said.
The Real Development group owns the building. Michael Elzufon and David Lundberg own Real Development, and they are commonly referred to as the Minnesota guys.
They plan to sell two other downtown buildings at the auction. They include the Farmers and Bankers building at 200 E. First St and the Landmark Building at 212 N. Market.
KWCH talked to both men on the phone Wednesday. They say they're selling off some smaller assets to focus on bigger projects, like the Exchange Place condo development on Douglas avenue.
Recently Real Development was named with other groups in a cease-and-desist order by the Kansas Securities Commission over fraudulent life settlement policies
The men say they're fighting that claim and the decision to sell the three buildings was made months before the investigation.
Furches fears the future owners may not rent out the building to his charity. If he can't find the money to buy the building himself, he may be forced to close Mosaic Wichita.
They know that we are a family and that we care about them," Furches said
