On a quiet, cold night in Augusta those close to Loyce Cody are sad and confused. "I feel real bad for the family right now," Dee Ann Triboulet says.
Earlier in the day police continued to comb Cody's home for evidence. The 69-year-old was found dead there on Monday after she failed to show up for work.
Cody's close friends tell us one of ther suspects in her murder is one of her grandchildren, although authorities have not confirmed that. Two are in custody awaiting formal charges.
Cody was a pre-kindergarten teacher at Cessna Elementary in Wichita. Triboulet says they got acquainted when Cody worked at the local flower shop in the 1980s. It was later in life when Cody got her degree and became a teacher.
"(She was) very loving, very giving, loved kids, hard-working--just a good person," Triboulet says.
Triboulet says Cody raised her kids on her own including a daughter with special needs.
"She loved her family," Triboulet says. "She talked about her family a lot."
Neighbor Gwen Shaver says Cody lived her life for others.
"She was an educator and she worked very closely with a lot of handicapped children," Shaver says. "That is where her passion lied."
Police are not saying what the motive may have been. Friends say it's incomprehensible to them how anyone could do something like this to someone so devoted to others, particularly to the most vulnerable among us.
