The price for a gallon of regular unleaded at most Wichita gas stations is just a few pennies above the three dollar mark. That's down about 80 cents from just a couple months ago.

One of the gas stations leading the downward trend has been the Phillips 66 downtown at Market and Dewey.  Owner Jack Fukuda says he dropped the price to $2.99 on Friday. He says that was a few cents cheaper than he normally would have priced it, but considered it a Christmas gift for his customers.  Since then, the trend across the town and across the nation continues to be cheaper gas.

"Oh man, on a fill-up it's probably saving me ten bucks," customer Matthew Atwater says.  "That's some savings!"

Atwater says the trip his family wants to take up to Kansas City is now much more affordable.

However, before you get to used to these low prices, realize we saw a similar drop exactly one year ago only to see prices spike back up after the first of the year. Experts don't expect these low gas prices to continue, although they will make traveling for the holidays less pricey.
