A dog disappears from his Labette County home, and several weeks later his owners discover he's not in Kansas anymore.  He turned up 1,500 miles away in California.

Rascal, the Jack Russell terrier mix ran away Thanksgiving weekend.  His family had given up hope of ever seeing him again.  But several weeks later Rascal turned up at a San Diego animal shelter.  Rascal had an ID tag listing his owners as the Lewis family in the Southeast Kansas town of Oswego.

An animal charity paid for Rascal's plane ticket home.  Ty and Nikki Lewis and their two kids picked him at the airport Saturday evening.

The Lewis' say Rascal seems to have had a good time in California.

"The kids are excited," Ty Lewis says.  "They had no idea Rascal was coming back.  We kind of tricked them and told them we were picking up a friend of mine from college, and they were suprised when they saw there was a dog in the box for them."

The Lewis' assume someone picked up Rascal in Kansas and drove him to California.  They say they'll never know all the details.  All that counts is that he's back home.
