You won't find it on the list of the nation's top shopping destinations. Black Friday is a pretty quiet day in Belle Plaine.
But you will find it right near the top of the best places to raise kids according to Bloomberg Businessweek. The magazine ranks the Sumner County town of just over a thousand people as best in Kansas and sixth best in the nation.

The ranking takes into account the school system and the family-friendly recreational opportunities such as parks and swimming pools. Also, Belle Plaine's proximity to Wichita means parents have ample employment opportunities while at the same time can shield their kids from some of the dangers of the big city.
Belle Plaine high school students rank above the state average in math and reading. The town's median income is also well above the state average.
