Black Friday draws big crowds to the big stores.  The following day is Small Business Saturday, which is aimed at helping the mom and pop shops compete.

Bungalow 26 in the Delano District is among the stores that saw a spike in sales.  Owner Kelsey Metzinger says Small Business Saturday is a great way to kick off the holiday shopping season.  She says one of the benefits of shopping at a store like hers is that customers can be assured of what they're buying.

"I buy everything because I love it, and I want you to love it," Metzinger says.  "If I don't stand behind something I don't have it."

American Express started Small Business Saturday in 2010.  Last year, it drew an estimated 100 million Americans to locally owned stores nationwide.
