The owners of Abilene's Kirby House Restaurant say they're devastated by a fire this week. The fire started Wednesday evening.
State and local investigators are working to determine a cause of the fire at the historic building built in 1885.
Owners Melodie and Robert Sprouse tell our partners at the Salina Journal that they closed around 2:00 Wednesday because of the pending snow. The fire was reported a few hours later.
The fire caused extensive damage, but the dollar amount is not yet known. At one point, three stories of the home were on fire.Former owner and renovator Terry Tietjens said he changed the old home to restaurant in 1987.
