(WICHITA, Kan.)—
One week ago Thursday Wichita police used tear gas to break up a large crowd in Old Town, but that incident isn't stopping a new bar from opening in the same area"Revolution is a rock bar," said Owner Melad Stephan. "It's completely different than the bars you have here in Wichita."
Revolution is located in the 200 block of North Mosley. The area has gotten some negative attention lately. But owners like Stephan want to change that perception
Stephan owns several other bars and restaurants in Old Town, so he's well aware of the recent late night incidents in the area.
"It didn't scare me away," Stephan said. "I've been around here almost 10 years if not more."
Doc Howard's Lounge has now released it's surveillance video from the night involving tear gas. In it, you can see how large the crowd was and how they reacted after the gas went off.
Owners there wish police used other means to break up the crowd.
"We've got 11 to 1200 people that are outside that 99.9% percent of them have done nothing wrong other than leave a club at the end of the night," said James Thompson, an attorney for Doc Howard's.
They don't want to see Old Town develop a bad reputation either.
"There are lots of positive things and there are lots of safe places to go down in Old Town," Thompson said. "Including to Doc Howard's"
The new Revolution club had a soft opening Thursday night. It will open to the public on Wednesday, Dec 5.
