Update: The Wichita City Council has unanimously approved the project plan and STAR Bond application for the Good Sports Fieldhouse in NE Wichita.
----------
The Wichita City Council holds a final public hearing on incentives for a development near K-96 and Greenwich today.
The city's tentatively approved STAR bonds to finance the Good Sports youth athletic complex.
The Good Sports complex would be built on 370 acres near Greenwich road and K-96. It would include numerous indoor sports courts, outdoor athletic opportunities, hotels, retail stores and restaurants.
The incentive allows sales tax revenue to help pay for the development. STAR bonds allows developers to use the bond money to finance land acquisition, site work and infrastructure needs. But it receive the incentive, it must be considered either a statewide entertainment or tourism area. The Department of Commerce must sign off on STAR bonds as well.
Developers say Good Sports could bring $200 million in sales tax revenue each year and create more than 2,000 jobs.
