A state trooper in southeast Kansas will recover after his patrol car was hit by a semi. The Highway Patrol posted a picture of the smashed patrol car on its Facebook page.
Troopers posted it to serve as a reminder to slow down when roads are slick. The crash happened while a trooper was sitting in his car after working a non-injury accident in Bourbon County.
The KHP says a semi driving down the road lost control on the ice and hit the parked patrol car. The trooper went to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. He's since been released from the hospital.
Between noon Wednesday and noon Thursday, the Kansas Highway Patrol responded to more than 400 accidents. Of those, 46 had some sort of injury. KHP also responded to nearly 550 calls from drivers needing help.
