Authorities in Liberal have charged Irineo Garcia with three counts of Attempted First Degree Murder.

Update, October 21
Three Liberal children remain in the hospital after police say a man tried to kill them and himself. A family friend tells Eyewitness News the man is the father of the five, six and seven year old children.
Patrick Kane says he had a bad feeling when he heard about what happened inside the Liberal home Monday evening. "They described the ages and I went oh my god. I've got goose bumps now," Kane said. He says he's a family friend of the three kids and the 30-year-old man accused of hurting them. He lived next to them for years before recently moving to Wichita. "I don't know what happened with his mind," Kane said about his friend.
Kane says the family told him, the children's father cut their necks and sent a picture of it to their mom who he is separated from. Police won't say what happened, only that the kids are in stable condition and the man in hospitalized in Wichita. "I think he tried to kill himself and then got the idea to kill the kids too, to take something away from her and hurt her," Kane said.
But Kane says no one, not even their mom suspected he could hurt the kids. Kane says his friend adored all three of his children. "There's no way that she would ever leave the kids if she didn't feel it was safe," he said about their mom. He says he also just found out his friend was hiding a drug problem and blames that on what happened. "Once you get the drugs out of his system, he's going to start rationalizing about it. When he does, I don't know how he's going to live with himself," Kane said.
Kane says he plans to stand by his friend, no matter what happens next. He's been trying to visit him in the hospital but hasn't been allowed.
Liberal police have not released any new information about the case. They say it's still under investigation and no arrests have been made. The Liberal school district says it brought in its crisis team to help students who know the kids who were hurt.

Police in Liberal have yet to release details of what they saw inside a home where three children were found seriously hurt.
They're waiting for the man accused of hurting them to make his first appearance in court.
At last check, the man was flown to Wichita's Wesley Medical Center in critical condition. But, hospital officials will not give us an update on his condition. The three children, ages five, six and seven, were taken to a hospital in Liberal where they're listed in "stable" condition.
Police were called to the home about 6 o'clock Monday night. When they arrived they found the 30-year-old man in the front yard with self-inflicted wounds.
The KBI and Liberal Police are investigating the incident.
Police have not announced any arrests.
