Wichita police warn citizens about a recent rash of mailbox thefts.  The most recent case was reported Monday in the 8700 block of E. Brookhollow.

Jeff Herlocker tells Eyewitness News his wife saw two suspicious women walking down the street peering into mail boxes.

"They just kind of parked the car and then they were moving from house to house," he said.

The women are described as being in their mid 20s.  One is about 5'7", 140 pounds with long dark hair wrapped in a bun.  She was wearing a light blue sweatshirt and white pants with Ugg boots.  The other woman is about 5'7" with blond hair.  They were seen driving a 90s model Ford Taurus, Police spokesman Lt. Doug Nolte said.

Police were unable to say how many cases have been reported, but believe the rash of thefts could be linked to the holidays, with people receiving gift cards and envelopes with cash.

Bruce Reesman, owner of Smart Security and Investigations recommended people concerned about mail theft purchase secure locking mailboxes that can only be accessed with a key.  Such mailboxes can cost between $80 and $225, he said.
