For more than three hours, west Wichita homeowners voiced their objections to a planned Sam's Club store in their neighborhood. The Metropolitan Area Planning Commission listened and said this was one of the hardest decisions its made.
In the end, commissioners approved a Sam's Club near 29th and Maize. They included stipulations, such as improving the facade on the building so it blends in better.
Residents in the Fox Ridge housing development say they're concerned Sam's will cause traffic, noise and safety issues. They also worry it will cause their property taxes to go down.
The planning commission's decision isn't final, its recommendation now goes to the Wichita City Council. A date hasn't been set for when the issue will go before the city council.
