(WICHITA, Kan.)—
Many types of ammunition are hard to find in Wichita. Stores are running out and even limiting how much customers can buy.“We don't have nearly the back stock we normally have,” says Bullseye owner Mike Relihan.
Relihan still has some inventory on the shelves, but limits purchases on some ammunition to people who are going to use it on his range.
“If they wanted to buy 10 boxes and carry out we used to do that. We can't do that anymore,” says Relihan.
It’s more of an issue for bigger stores like Gander Mountain where stores shelves are empty. One customer there said he’d been all over Wichita and even drove to Oklahoma, but couldn’t find the ammo he wanted.
Relihan doesn’t think there will be a long-term shortage.
“We really think it's going to level back off.”
He says prices have increased as manufacturers try to catch up.
In addition to increased demand for ammo, Relihan says he’s seeing record demand for guns and firearms training classes.
He says many customers signing up for basic handgun classes are women.
