It's an annual program called "Soles 4 Souls." Each year the Union Rescue Mission in Wichita partners with a local foot surgeon to provide free foot exams and new shoes for homeless men.

Dr. Naomi Shields has partnered with the shelter for the past few years. Each man is given a thorough foot exam. Shoe wear professionals also fit every man with their own pair of brand new shoes.

"These people go out and walk miles in the inclement weather," says Dr. Shields. "We can help them have a good pair of sneakers, a good pair of work boots, something they can put on their feet and walk in."

Earlier this year the Union Rescue Mission conducted a sock drive. They collected more than 2,600 pairs of socks in the area.
