A stranded cruise ship in the Gulf of Mexico will make port Thursday afternoon in Alabama, five days after a fire disabled the boat.
Some Kansans are on board and others just finished a cruise on the same ship.
"We had sewer gas so bad in our hallway to our cabin," said Stockton resident Joey Bellerive. "It was disgusting, we asked to have it fixed and nothing was done."
Bellerive sailed on the Carnival Triumph in early February. He wonders why the ship was able to ship out again after the problems he encountered.
On Sunday, a fire broke out in an engine room. No one was hurt, but it did shut off power leaving passengers with few amenities.
They are having to use the shower to urinate and they have to use trash cans to defecate," said Bill Stout, who's wife is on the ship. "They stand in line two hours for a sandwich and air conditioning doesn't work."
Two tugs boats are now pulling the Triumph eight miles an hour to Mobile bay. Some in Wichita are following the journey through a blog by Wichita Business Journal Editor Bill Roy, who's wife is on the ship..
"Let me assure you that no one here from Carnival is happy about the conditions on board the ship," said Carnival Cruise Lines President and CEO Gerry Cahill
Carnival has offered refunds to passengers and discounts to make up for the inconvenience.
"There is other cruise lines out there," said Bellerive.
Bellerive says he won't travel on Carnival again after watching all of this.
Carnival says it has canceled all cruises aboard the triumph until April 13th. The fire is being investigated by the Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board.
