Wichita police say a 23-year-old was shot in the head over the weekend after answering his door.
George Vasquez Jr. died Saturday night at a home in the 800 block of north Wabash. Police say three people were inside the home around 9:00 when someone knocked on the door.
Vasquez Jr. answered the door and police say a 28-year-old Hakeem Jackson shot him in the head. Prosecutors charged Jackson with one count of first degree murder.
They say the victim and two other men inside the home worked together. They say they may have also worked with Jackson. They aren't aware of a motive behind the shooting at this time.
The shooting Saturday night kept many people from getting home to the McAdam's neighborhood.
"I come down the alley to see what was going on and they stopped me and told me I couldn't get through over there," says Gloyd Hunt.
Neighbors say officers are used to coming to the neighborhood.
"Police had been going over there quite a bit, in the last two or three months but I don't know what it was about or anything," says Hunt.
Neighbors say they'll keep the man in their thoughts.
"That's bad for his parents for a young man to get killed like that. You know that's bad. This time of year, 20 years old and he didn't even get to see Christmas," says Hunt shaking his head.
