Gas prices continue their nearly two-month decline in the Wichita area.
The average cost of a gallon of unleaded is now $3.33 per gallon. In early April, the price was $3.77 per gallon.
AAA projects 34.8 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home during Memorial Day weekend. That is an increase of 1.2 percent over last year.
Most analysts say summer prices peaked back in April and will continue to fall unless there are distruptions in supply.
One disruption may be hurricanes. The official start of the Atlantic hurrican season is June 1. Forecasters said there is a 70% chance of nine to 15 named storms with top winds of at least 39 mph.
Tensions with Iran and unplanned refinery shutdowns could also drive prices back up.
During the Memorial Day weekend of 2008, average high prices ranged from $4.16 to $4.22 a gallon on average.
