(WICHITA, Kan.)—
A man accused of robbing a west Wichita Walmart is behind bars, after several witnesses stopped the suspect from getting away.
Police were called to the scene in the 6100 block of W. Kellogg around 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Investigators said a 46-year-old man, who was banned from store, walked in and stole $14.36 worth of merchandise.
An employee yelled while the man was running out of the store. An Army veteran heard the commotion, and tackled the burglar in a snow bank, police said. Another witness, a cab driver, saw the disturbance and sprayed the suspect with mace. A retired game warden handcuffed the shoplifter, holding him until officers arrived.
The suspect was booked on burglary, felony theft and simple battery charges.
