Augusta Police officers are investigating after a high school student brought a handgun onto school property.
The district said the student bought the gun to the school Thursday with an intent to sell the weapon. Administrators said the gun was never in the building, nor was there a threat to staff or students.
A text alert was sent to parents about the situation around 3 p.m.
The case has been turned over to the Augusta Police department. The police chief tells Eyewitness News that they were investigating two stolen guns. The chief says they discovered a grandson stole the guns from his grandparents and tried to sell them. He says one of those guns was found at the school.

It was discovered this afternoon that a high school student brought a handgun onto the Augusta High School campus with the intent to sell it. It was never in the building and there was never a threat to the staff or students. The investigation has been turned over to the police department. Parents were notified by phone using AlertNow beginning at 3:05 p.m. AHS students and staff were notified via the AHS public address system prior to school dismissal at 3:00. District employees were notified via e-mail sent at 3:03 p.m.
