A manhunt that crossed county lines earlier this week, ended near a local school.
But now Bentley administrators and parents want to know why the district was not notified about a fugitive in the area.
Law enforcement officers from several agencies were looking for a man injured during a crime spree in Harvey County early Tuesday morning. Officers caught Jack Stanley, 35, just south of Bentley Elementary minutes before classes ended.
Thomas Alstrom, Halstead-Bentley Superintendent, said it's concerning to know there was a criminal on the run nearby.
"It made us a little uncomfortable that it was that close to school," Alstrom said. "We didn't know anything about what was going on."
A spokeswoman for the Sedgwick County Sheriff's office said school officials would have been notified if officers had believed the suspects might be headed toward the school.
Alstrom said school security concerns have spiked since the Connecticut shooting last year.
Parents said they would have like to have known about the potential danger in the area.
"Something like this happening so close to a school, everybody should really know about it," said Cody Clark, parent.
Authorities are still searching for a second suspect in connection to the crime. Stanley's case has been turned over to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.
