A body has been found in an apartment after a fire damaged the building in December.

Police were called to investigate at a complex in the 3100 block of S. George Washington Blvd. Tuesday afternoon. Investigators said a man's body was found inside the burned out unit.

It appears to be a sad ending to the mystery that puzzled residents of the complex for months.

Nobody had seen the man who lived in apartment 501 after it caught fire in December.  Christie Gregg says nobody would listen to her.

"I was convinced, and I knew with everything in me he was in there," said Gregg.  "I kept telling the maintenance and the other guys out here that they needed to get him out."

Authorities said at the time of the fire they couldn't find anyone inside.  Meanwhile, neighbors say the man's van has been sitting in the parking lot unmoved ever since the fire.  And, he never returned to salvage anything out of the apartment.

Tuesday, a maintenance crew went inside and made the discovery.  There's been no official identification of the body.

A spokesman for the Wichita Fire Department said Wichita Police are investigating the case.
