(LAWRENCE, Kan.)—
An Overland Park man has been sentenced to five years in prison for killing a Lawrence woman in a drunken-driving crash in Lawrence. The Lawrence Journal-World reports that 24-year-old Sean Barrett Walker acknowledged he was at fault during a sentencing hearing Friday in Douglas County Court. He said he would take back his actions back if he could.
Walker's blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the state's legal limit two hours after the 2010 crash that killed 19-year-old Mary Grace Paez. In September, a judge approved a $100,000 settlement for Paez's parents in a civil lawsuit against Walker.
Paez's mother, Cecilia Paez, cried while reading a statement that described the family as "heartbroken." She said she hoped Walker would be reformed and spend his years doing something positive.
