A group of sophomores, juniors and seniors from Hays High School witnessed history Monday morning.
The teens traveled from Ellis county, to watch President Barack Obama take his second oath at the nation's Capitol.
The trip was organized by World Strides, an educational travel organization.
Abby Maska, teacher, said the students held fundraisers in order to take the trip, some of them even asking their parents to give it as a birthday or Christmas gift.
"That is what is so great about this trip," Maska said. "It's not necessarily about a candidate or ideology. It's about our democracy, history, and country."
The students plan to attend Inaugural events all Monday.
They also have plans to visit the Holocaust Museum and the Vietnam Memorial. The idea is to stencil the names of Ellis County War Heroes onto paper and present the names to the local VFW.
Students can receive college credit for the trip, if they meet the necessary requirements.
