A police chase topping speeds of 90 mph through downtown Wichita landed one man behind bars.
It began in the 600 block of north Topeka around 5 a.m. Saturday after an officer tried to stop a pickup truck driving the wrong direction on a one-way street.
The driver took off, and a chase ensued. Police said the man later struck parked vehicles near 9th and Chautauqua, and continued driving.
Officers called off the chase due to speed and safety concerns.
Authorities said the man parked his truck and was later found breaking into a home in the 2900 block of East Mossman. He told police it was his girlfriend's home.
The man was booked on driving under the influence, evade and elude, hit and run and other outstanding warrant charges.
