A Wichita nightclub that has been connected to violent crimes could soon be shutting its doors.
Several Old Town business owners tell Eyewitness News Doc Howards lease may not be renewed. Chris Arnold, owner of River City Brewing Company, said he heard about the controversial club closing over a text message.
"I think that building is enormous and everyone opens up with great intentions," he said. "It's difficult to manage."
Critics have been vocal about Doc Howards because it has been connected to fights and multiple shootings. One of the shootings turned deadly last year after a Wichita Police officer fired shots into a large crowd outside the business. Authorities used tear gas to disperse crowds in November.
Arnold said he knows Old Town has taken a hit, but he's hoping it can get its reputation back.
"Even though we've had a couple of rough incidents, there's a vast array of things to do down here," he said.
Doc Howards manager tells Eyewitness News the rent is current and employees have been paid.
We do not have an exact date of when Doc Howards lease will expire, however the club's website is down.
