Kansas highways are open, but remain packed with snow in much of the state after a major winter storm.
State and local crews continue to clear roads, but driving conditions remain poor. AAA reports more than 400 people called for roadside assistance Friday. Most of the calls were to rescue stranded motorists who got stuck on streets not yet cleared by snow removal crews. Several teams were called to help drivers who slid-off the road as a result of driving too fast.
One-quarter of the roadside assistance calls came from Wichita drivers.
AAA urges all drivers to slow down and leave plenty of distance between cars.
Another major snow storm could be slamming into Kansas late this weekend.
