Workers at local Taco Tico restaurants say they have not been paid in more than a month. This, after the state shut down six business in the Wichita area for failing to pay sales tax.

Jacob Taylor, 17, said he has worked at Taco Tico for more than a year. But he said he has not had troubles cashing his paycheck until recently. His last four paychecks have bounced.

"The checks are bouncing and no one's getting paid," he said. "I've been working four weeks for free so it's frustrating."

Taylor said the company owes him more than $400.

Ajax International Group filed for bankruptcy earlier this month. Some of the stores have since reopened.

Eyewitness News tried to call Mohmood Karim, a Taco Tico owner, about the lost wages. Calls were not returned.

"I wanna just go to work get paid and that will be it, you know?," Taylor said. "I don't want to drive around to three banks seeing which ones will cash it and then wait for it to get bounced."

Taco Tico owes the state more than $435,000 in unpaid sales tax.
