Wichita firefighters are still on the scene of a building fire in west Wichita. A fire broke out at Hanna Heating and Air around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday. It prompted road closures on West Street between 2nd and Maple during rush hour.

A passerby noticed thick smoke coming from the building and called 911. Fire investigators say employees were closing up for the day when the fire started. No one was inside or hurt during the blaze. The business is located at 216 N. West St.

The business does contain hazardous materials. Firefighters will stay on the scene overnight to monitor hot spots. Fire investigators plan to return in the morning to continue searching for a cause. The damage estimate currently stands at $1M.
