Many families took advantage of the unseasonably warm temperatures Friday by spending time outdoors. Some went to the zoo, others played in backyards, and many enjoyed the day at the park.

But in Winfield, familes stood in disbelief as a fire destroyed a playground for the second time in about five years.

"We were gonna come play and then we noticed it," Spencer Lowe, 5, said.

Firefighters were called to the Island Park Thursday night after witnesses reported seeing flames in the playground. The fire quickly spread, destroying the castles, viking ships and other figurines.

Investigators are calling the fire suspicious, but no arrests have been made.

David Chapman helped design the playground after it was rebuilt in 2009. He said he can't believe it's no longer standing.

"It just breaks my heart," he said. "We did it out of love and something that took so many hundreds of people to do and they can just destroy it in one evening."

Children are hopeful they will have a place to play again soon.

"I want them to rebuild the playground," Lowe said.
