More applicants are needed for jobs at the Kansas Star Casino.  The casino still needs about 50 employees, mainly dealers for table games.  Once they hire the extra 50 people, the casino will start operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The hold up on hiring isn't because of a lack of interest.  12,000 people have applied for jobs with the casino.  Of those applications, 5,000 people had interviews for everything from security and dealers to waitresses and back of house staff.  The casino hired 500 from that group.

Human Resource Director Diana Farha says one of the main reasons applicants didn't get hired is because they have to be licensed by the state.  She says that weeded out a lot of people.  Also, many applicants didn't want to wait for the casino to open and took other jobs as they became available.

Of the 500 people hired so far, 50% are from Sedgwick County, 35% from Sumner County and 15% from elsewhere including out of state.
