Eyewitness News has confirmed another inmate has come forward claiming he was sexually assaulted by a Sedgwick County Jail deputy.
Attorney Mark Schoenhofer says the victim, who is in his 20's, claims he was raped by the deputy. Schoenhofer says his investigation has turned up evidence to prove the claim. He says it's the same deputy who's accused of raping another inmate earlier this month.
"Our investigation has produced numerous witnesses who have either been solicited by the same deputy for sex or they are in a position to learn about what happened," says Schoenhofer.
Earlier this month, an inmate says the deputy handcuffed and raped him in his cell in the middle of the night.
Schoenhofer says the new claim has very similar circumstances, but no handcuffs were used. He also says the two victims do not know each other.
Eyewitness News has a call into the sheriff's office. Schoenhofer is preparing to file a civil suit against the sheriff's office.
We also learned Monday, that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has been contacted by the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department on whether to get involved in a jail investigation involving allegations of a deputy raping an inmate.
"We have been made aware of the allegations and will look at how to proceed from here," said FBI spokesperson Bridget Patton.
Reasons the U.S. Department of Justice would get involved include violation of an inmate's civil rights and complaints involving color of law abuses. Color of Law abuses include allegations of when law enforcement officials or others in authority take advantage and deprive or conspire to deprive a person of a right protected by the Constitution or U.S. law.
Patton says the agency will determine whether to take over the investigation in a few days.
