Wichita State University says farewell to President Don Beggs and his wife Shirley.
The campus and community were invited to a reception Thursday afternoon at Charles Koch Arena.
President Beggs is retiring after 13 years with the university. He and his wife are moving to Illinois to be closer to their family.
"These are the people who really are Wichita State. We've had the privilege of representing them and being brought into the group. as Shirley said this is by far the toughest emotional part for us," Beggs told Eyewitness News.
Beggs moved to Wichita in 1999 to take over as the 12th president of WSU. During the reception, he and his wife were presented with a scrapbook of notes and photos from students, faculty and community members.
John Bardo was named WSU's 13th president in April.
