(DODGE CITY, Kan.)—It has been part of Dodge City for more than 50 years, but the city's recent expansion caused the civic center to stand still.
Now Dodge City leaders are considering deeding the land and the Civic Center to the Dodge City school district. First, the area needs to be mapped-out so legal descriptions of the property can be included in the agreement.
"No one wants to see the civic center just sitting idle, so I think seeing it being used by the school district and accessible to all of their activities is going to be a plus," said Dodge City spokesperson Jane Longmeyer.
City commissioners will discuss the proposal during their next meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 22.
