It's been an iconic part of the Wichita skyline for more than 40 years. But there's something people don't like about it anymore.

The scathing comments about the new logo for Century II are floating around cyberspace and social media.

"I love Century II," said Wichita native Jarrett Green. "Everything that happened in Century II, I've been there." He continued, "It's a huge building to Wichita. In Wichita and to Wichita."

Last week, the City of Wichita unveiled its remodeled Century II Convention Center. "They just renovated the place amazingly," said Green, "it looks great.  They spent a lot of effort and money to it, which is amazing."

At the same time, it unveiled its renovated Century II logo. "It looks like Century II's roof," commented Green.  "It's just not enough." He continued listing other ways he's heard it described; "parts of anatomy, and a bowl, or a briefcase in motion."

Within hours of the new logo's introduction, Jarrett Green introduced a new website. "All we got is a stylized rooftop. It doesn't really say what happens there.  From opera to car shows, to music theater of Wichita; there's so much that happens in that building."

Century2point0 asks designers to submit a better Century II logo. So far, it received 50.

"Century II is an icon of Wichita," said Derek Pletcher. He and his coworkers at Squid Ink submitted four designs.  "It's one of its most recognizable landmarks."

Squid Ink overlooks the teal roof of Century II. And the creative inspiration may not end with four designs. But Pletcher said this is "not necessarily for money, not necessarily for recognition.  It's to support the city."

The city hasn't said it will  -or won't - change the logo. So as long as Century II keeps its logo, Century2point0 will keep looking for a new one.
