Flowers and candles are placed in the spot where 30-year-old Bradley "BJ" Wellbrock was stabbed on New Year’s Day.
Police say Wellbrock and a friend were walking near Wildwood and Meridian when they saw an argument between a man and a woman. They got involved and tried to break up the incident when the man who was fighting with the woman started fighting with them.
Police say the man called for others to help. Around nine others showed up and a large fight broke out.
Wellbrock was stabbed during the fight and later died.
Police have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with the death.
"It's crazy to now think that he's gone but he's always going to be remembered with us in our hearts," Terrance Ganote, BJ's cousin, said.
Ganote came to the scene where his cousin died Tuesday afternoon to pray. The two grew up together, and Ganote looked up to Wellbrock.
"I remember going over to the church that was down the street from our house as a little kid and he helped me work on my jump shot."
Ganote said Wellbrock was always joking around and could fill any room with laughter.
"Any room, it can be the darkest room and he would light it up with his smile."
