"Everybody is talking about it," said Kathy Bontrager.
And judging by the crowd at Tuesday's meeting, everyone is anxious for answers. More than 100 people showed up for a meeting that concerned a town with a population of only 200.
"It will be a burden on all of us if we have to go somewhere else to do our mail," explains Cindy Mastro.
The government is doing a study to see if it would benefit them to close the Yoder Post Office, and combine it with services six miles away in Haven. Leaving Yoder with just a rural carrier.
"We have a lot of tourist who come through the community and they make purchases and they can't take them home with them on the plane. So, they just go to the post office and some make final decisions on purchases by doing it that way. Losing the post office could really hurt our bottom line," adds, Bontrager.
But there's another factor that has people worried. Yoder has a high amish population, meaning they can't just jump in a car and drive to Haven if they need to mail something.
"We're a little different in this community because of that and we feel like they need to take that into consideration," said Ron Bontrager.
Tammy Mills adds, "If they want to mail a package they're going to have to be watching out their door for their rural delivery carrier to come by and catch them. Otherwise it's going to be hopping on the tractor or hitching up the buggy and going to Hutch or Haven to mail a package."
No decisions were made at Tuesday's meeting, it was information only. That means the town of Yoder will just have to wait to learn the fate of their post office.
